From Hall of Honor press release dated May 24, 1987:

Sarah Emblen Beneke, a 1946 graduate, was a gifted athlete who excelled at every sport she attempted. While at Wittenberg, Beneke competed in swimming, volleyball, field hockey, and basketball. She taught tennis, badminton, basketball, and swimming at Wittenberg and represented the school at the State Women's Athletic Conference in Columbus. During war time there were no official athletic records kept and women competed in "play days" with other colleges. Beneke was a high scorer of her sorority intramural basketball team at Witttenberg. In addition to her athletic endeavors at Wittenberg, Beneke was a member of the homcoming court, choir, yearbook staff, "shifters" organization, Alpha Xi Delta sorority and was class vice president.
