WOOSTER — The third-seeded Wittenberg women's tennis team defeated sixth-seeded Ohio Wesleyan 5-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Friday. The match was moved indoors due to inclement weather.
The Basics
- Records: Wittenberg (14-4 overall), Ohio Wesleyan (7-9 overall)

- Junior Caroline Sproule (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) is ranked 12th among singles players in NCAA Division III Region 5 in the latest rankings, which were released on April 28. Sproule and freshman Kylie Wilson (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) are ranked eighth among doubles teams in Region 5.
- Wittenberg is now 29-24 all-time against Ohio Wesleyan. The Tigers defeated the Battling Bishops 9-0 in Springfield in their regular-season finale on April 24.
- Wittenberg's 14 victories this season are its most in a season since finishing 19-6 in 2010-11.
The Match
- Wittenberg gave themselves an early 3-0 lead by winning all three doubles courts. Sproule and Wilson trailed by two at one point but came back to win 8-6 at No. 1. The freshman team of Sophia Pischalko (Granger, Ind./Penn) and Breanna Ball (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy) won 8-3 at No. 2, and freshmen Lilly Hartman (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) and Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Claire) won 8-2 at No. 3.
- The Tigers proceeded to win two singles courts to clinch the best-of-nine match. Wilson won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, and Ball won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5.
- At the time the match was clinched, Sproule was ahead 6-1, 2-1 at No. 1 singles, Loomis trailed 4-6, 1-0 at No. 3, Pischalko had won a close first set, 7-5, at No. 4, and Hartman had taken her first set, 6-4, at No. 6.
Season Records
- Sproule is now 24-9 overall, including 12-4 in singles and 12-5 in doubles.
- Wilson is now 27-9 overall, including 14-4 in singles and 13-5 in doubles.
- Loomis is now 19-14 overall, including 8-9 in singles and 11-5 in doubles.
- Pischalko is now 27-8 overall, including 12-5 in singles and 15-3 in doubles.
- Ball is now 27-7 overall, including 12-4 in singles and 15-3 in doubles.
- Hartman is now 22-9 overall, including 10-4 in singles and 12-5 in doubles.
