Women's Swim and Dive Captures Eighth Straight Dual Win
MADISON, IN - The Wittenberg men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued to excel in dual meet competition, this time picking up a pair of victories over host Hanover in a meet that took place at Madison Junior High School in Madison, IN.
Wittenberg's women improved to 8-0 on the 2024-25 season with a dominating performance. The Tigers defeated Hanover by a score of 184-46. On the men's side, Wittenberg is now 3-5 on the season after picking up a 142-63 victory over the Panthers.
Individually, Wittenberg swept the top spot in every women's race. Lily Cook (Rensselaer, IN / Rensselaer Central) won two individual events (100 backstroke, 50 backstroke) and was a member of two winning relays (200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay). Matching Cook with four wins on the day was Teagan O'Connor (Fort Wayne, IN / Carroll) as she topped the field in the 100 IM and 50 Fly and also swam a leg on the same two first-place relays.
Sophie Paskiet (Toledo, OH / St. Ursula) also swam a leg on the 200 medley relay, in addition to claiming the top spot in the 50 breast. Shania Stone (Cincinnati, OH / Princeton) swam a led of the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay, and she capped her day with a gold medal in the 50 free.
McKenna Clark (Waynesville, OH / Carroll) also had three wins on the day as she touched first in the 200 free and 100 fly, in addition to her participation in the 200 free relay. Rounding out the individual winners for the Tigers were Jade Paumi (Lexington, KY / Lafayette) in the 100 breast, Allison Browning (Hillsboro, OH / Hillsboro) in the 100 free, and Annie Gammon (Cincinnati, OH / Cincinnati Country Day) in the 500 free.
For Wittenberg's men, the stars of the show were Owen Gabel (New Bremen, OH / New Bremen) and Mason Steen (Leroy, OH / Riverside), both with four first-place finishes on the day. Gabel's individual wins came in the 100 back and 50 back, and Steen's individual wins were in the 50 breast and 100 free. Both swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay and 200 free relay as well. They were joined by Tatum Paglia (Indianapolis, IN / Ben Davis) and Orry Farrington (Waterville, OH / Anthony Wayne) on the 200 medley relay, and Nathan Rabun (Marion, OH / Wynford) and Farrington on the 200 free relay.
Paglia added a win in the 50 fly, Tre Wynn (Columbus, OH / New Albany) took the top spot in the 100 breast, and Ethan Towle (Centerville, OH / Centerville) rounded out the first-place finishers in the 100 IM.
