CLERMONT, Florida—Wittenberg softball moved to 6-0 on the young season after defeating Susquehana 8-1 and Theil 8-0. The Tigers were on top of their game all day Thursday, led by Chelsea Zang (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton). Zang was dominant Susquehana Thursday, scattering three hits and striking out five in seven innings, while the sophomore also smashed two-homeruns, including one grand-slam, on her way to five RBI's. The Tigers season continues tomorrow against Moravian and Ursinus as the spring break trip in Florida continues for Wittenberg.
SUSQUEHANA NOTES
- Abby Baker (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield), Casey Hobbs (Fairborn, Ohio/Carroll), and Shannon Lance (Loveland, Ohio/Kings) all contributed two hits for Wittenberg in the 8-1 win.
- After hitting two more today, Zang now has three homeruns on the young season to go along with a 2.00 ERA in 21 innings pitched in 2016.
- Wittenberg's offense was firing on all cylinders Thursday, only leaving four runners on base in the win.
THIEL NOTES
- Abby Haab (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) was the story against Thiel, as the sophomore hurler went the distance in a one-hit outing.
- The sophomore improved to 3-0 on the season after striking out five and walking one in the victory.
- Rachel Black (Avon, Indiana/Avon) got things going for the Tigers at the plate in the bottom of the second, as the freshman crushed a three-run home run to give the Tigers an early 3-0 lead.
- Hobbs would go on to add two more hits for the Tigers resulting in two more RBI's as the junior finished her day with four hits and three RBI's.
- As a team, Wittenberg only left two runners on base in the five inning game.
