CLEARWATER, Florida—Wittenberg softball opened up its Spring Break trip in style Monday, defeating New England College 11-1 during the day, and St. Mary's of Indiana in the nightcap, 7-4. Chelsea Zang (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) went the distance for the Tigers Monday night, scattering nine hits in the complete game effort. The sophomore also helped herself out at the plate, crushing a two-run homerun in the sixth inning to secure the victory for Wittenberg. The Tigers start 2016 2-0, with another double-header set start at 9:00AM tomorrow against Cornell College, followed by Lebanon Valley at 11:00AM.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
- After allowing St. Mary's to strike first, Abby Baker (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) erased the early lead with a two-run home run that plated Shannon Lance (Loveland, Ohio/Kings).
- Wittenberg added three more runs in the fifth, highlighted by Abby Curnutte's (Urbana, Ohio/Urbana) RBI double.
- As Zang went the distance, the sophomore aided the offense with two big insurance runs with her homerun in the sixth inning.
KEY STATS
