SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Wittenberg softball team dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season, falling to 9-4 overall after 5-0 and 5-3 defeats against Ohio Wesleyan.

The first games of the year played at Betty Doughman Dillahunt Field were conducted under blue skies and 55-degree temperatures, but the Battling Bishops kept the Tigers from heating up.

In the first game, junior Kaitie Harrison (Springfield, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) was 2-for-3 at the plate, but as a team Wittenberg was held to five hits against Ohio Wesleyan's 10. A pair of runs in the first and fifth innings plus one tally in the seventh accounted for the visitors' scoring.

In the late game, sophomore Ashlee Wright (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) slugged the first home run of her collegiate career, giving the Tigers a three-run boost in the fourth inning.

Ohio Wesleyan already owned a five-run lead by that time after two in the second, one in the third and another pair in the fourth.

Wright finished the game 2-for-3, and Harrison was 1-for-2 with a walk. As a team, the Tigers were held to six hits in the game.

Wittenberg hits the road for the next six games, starting at Kenyon at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2.
