CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Wittenberg Tigers finally got back on the field and came away with a doubleheader split at Thomas More.

After losing the opener 5-4, the Tigers rallied to even the score with a 4-2 win in the nightcap. When the dust had settled, Wittenberg was left with a record of 9-2, compared to 7-9 for the Saints.

The Tigers banged out seven hits, collected five walks and also benefited from three Thomas More errors. However, Wittenberg stranded a whopping 12 runners in the game en route to the one-run defeat.

In the pitcher's circle, sophomore Julia Williams (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) allowed nine hits and walked four batters, but she limited the Saints to five runs. She suffered her first loss of the 2013 season against four wins.

Offensively, the Tigers got multi-hit games from freshmen Aubrey Mendez (St. Louisville, Ohio/Utica) and Shannon Lance (Loveland, Ohio/Kings). Junior Rachel Ross (Westerville, Ohio/South) drove in a pair of runs, while junior Laura Rose (Riverside, Ohio/Stebbins) added two stolen bases.

Ross turned in another strong pitching performance in Game 2 to improve her record to 5-1 on the season. Like Williams, she went the distance, allowing seven hits and one walk while overcoming three Wittenberg errors.

Lance drove in two runs and sophomore Shelby Knapp (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield) offered some much-needed production from the bottom of the line-up with a 2-for-3 performance and one run scored and one run batted in.

The games against Thomas More were the first for Wittenberg since the Tigers won eight of their nine games in Florida during Spring Break. The doubleheader against John Carroll re-scheduled for March 24 has already been canceled due to an impending snowstorm.
