Men's Volleyball Splits Day With Charleston (W.V) & Rio Grande

Charleston, W.V.  – The Wittenberg Tiger Men's Volleyball team split the day at the Charleston (W.V.) Tri-Match, taking on the host Golden Eagles and Rio Grande Red Storm.

The Tigers fell 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 25-16), in their opening match of the day against the Golden Eagles. Wittenberg started out strong with their best hitting-percentage of the match, logging a .207 clip. Dominic Melchiorre led the Tiger attack with nine kills on 19 swings, posting a .263 kill-percentage. Melchiorre also added a team-high two service aces with two digs and a block assist. Andrew Diaz de Padilla accounted for 26 of the 27 Tiger assists to start the day, adding five digs and a block assist.

Wittenberg bounced back in their second match of the day against Rio Grande. The Tigers defeated the Red Storm, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-16). Wittenberg found their groove improving their offensive efficiency throughout the match, hitting .259-.393-.417. Tom Supan led the Tiger offense with nine kills on 13 swings, posting a .538 hitting-percentage. Supan added one dig, while getting up on defense for two blocks. Melchiorre posted a .857 hitting percentage in the second match, putting down six kills on seven attacks without an error. Eli Halverson tallied eight kills for the Wittenberg offense on 16 swings with just one error, posting a .438 hitting percentage. Sam Richardson posted a team-high 23 assists, adding three service aces.
