HIRAM, OH – Wittenberg Men's Soccer finished its final match of the 2024 season on a high note by defeating Hiram, 2-1, on the road, Saturday, Nov. 2, at Charles A. Henry Field at Malmisur Stadium.
The Tigers scored one in the first and one in the second to defeat the Terriers in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup. With the win, Wittenberg finishes the season 4-7-3 overall and 2-4-2 in the NCAC. Hiram finishes at 3-12-2 and 0-7 in the conference.
Wittenberg struck first on a goal by junior Jack Pascoal (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) in the 29th minute off an assist by senior Kees Ciric (Loveland, OH / Loveland). Pascoal ended up with four shots, one on goal for the night.
However, that goal was answered by Hiram in less than a minute when Alex Lineen found the net off a string of passes from Erik Rangel and Carmine Boscarello. The first half ended in a 1-1 tie with Wittenberg leading the Terriers in both shots (11-6) and in corner kicks (6-1).
Wittenberg's game-winning goal came at the 52:16 mark of the game on a penalty kick that found the back of the net off the foot of Ciric. It was his eighth goal of the year. He had two shots and two on goal for the night. Marcus Orton (Knoxville, TN / Webb School of Knoxville) had three shots on the night. Wittenberg freshman Jaden Robinette (Springfield, OH / Northwestern) got the call in the goal and tallied six saves in the match. Hiram goalkeeper Tyler Jurgensen recorded two saves on the night.
Team stats for the Tigers included 18 total shots, four on goal, and one assist. Wittenberg also had seven corner kicks and 14 fouls. Hiram had 15 shots and seven on goal. The Terriers also had 12 fouls and four corner kicks.
