SPRINGFIELD, OH - Wittenberg Men's Soccer made it two wins in a row by recording the first shutout of the 2024 season, a 1-0 decision against visiting Capital.
The win evened Wittenberg's record at 2-2-1, heading into a Tuesday road trip to Earlham. Capital fell to 0-3-3.
The Tigers held the upper hand throughout the first half as they attempted eight shots to Capital's two. One of those shots found the back of the net as Jack Pascoal (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) tallied in the 23rd minute after a scramble in front of the net. Wittenberg also held a commanding 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The second half played much more evenly as the two teams split 10 shots right down the middle. The Crusaders held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks, but the Tigers and goalkeeper Sam Nitzberg (Cincinnati, OH / Cincinnati Country Day), who was credited with four saves, held firm.
Nine different Wittenberg players took shots in the game, led by Kees Ciric (Loveland, OH / Loveland) with three. Collin LaVeck (Carroll, OH / Bloom-Carroll) and Pascoal finished with two shots each.
