Tigers Defeat Little Giants in Conference Play

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg returned to Edwards-Maurer Field for their sixth conference match-up of the season. The Tigers took on the Little Giants of Wabash, with a final score of 19-3 and a win for the Red & White to improve their conference record to 3-3.

Wittenberg got on the board in each quarter, putting up five goals in three of the four. Scoring first was Mitchell Steinker off of an assist from Kody Gould. Gould then picked up the Tigers second goal with an assist from Holton Boehmer to take a 2-0 lead. Also scoring in the first were Connor Matthews and Noah Mackin from Zach Busby to head into the second quarter with a 4-1 lead over the Little Giants. The second quarter brought more success for Wittenberg with goals from Gould off of an assist from Ben Holland, Julio Novarini, Gould with his third of the game, Busby, and Nathan Brown. Wittenberg started the third quarter with a 9-2 lead and quickly extended that with goals from Holton Boehmer from Holland, Connor Matthews with two, Novarini, and Brown once again. With a 14-2 lead, the Tigers comfortably added five more to their total with goals from Holland assisted by Busby, Nicholas Langenderfer from Holland, Gould, Busby, and Novarini all unassisted. Wittenberg ended with a final score of 19-3 for their third conference win of the season.

The Tigers currently sit at number six in the NCAC with a conference record of 3-3.

Wittenberg Leaders- The Tigers were led by Kody Gould on offense with four goals on the night followed by Julio Novarini and Connor Matthews with three each. Novarini led in ground balls picking up six on the day. At the face-off was Luke Stanfield going 10-16. In goal for the Tigers was Ben Shevins who faced 10 shots with seven saves on the day.

NCAC Leaders- Wittenberg has four guys in the top ten for statistics in the NCAC. Ben Holland is at number five in the conference for goals with 28 and number ten for assists with 16. Holland continues to lead the NCAC in points at number six with 44 points. In face-off success, Luke Stanfield lands at number eight going 90-168. On the defensive end, Mario Lorelli and Max Benincasa are tied at number nine in the NCAC for caused turnovers with 21 on the season. Up Next- Wittenberg will return home on April 23rd for their Senior Day game against Wooster. Prior to the match-up the Tigers will celebrate the class of 2022.
