Tigers Take Down Fighting Scots

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg met Wooster on their home turf for an exciting battle. After going back-and-forth for four quarter, the Tigers defeated the Fighting Scots with a score of 13-10 to claim their first victory of the 2021 season. Lucas Klever led the tigers with four goals on the day, followed by Andrew Ellis with three.

Wooster was able to get the first point on the board in the first quarter but Wittenberg answered with three goals. Andrew Ellis got things started for the Tigers with an assist from Connor Rice. Following him, was senior Lucas Klever with two unassisted goals to take the Tigers into the second quarter up with a 3-1 score.

The second quarter became more challenging for Wittenberg who was only able to get through Wooster defense twice compared to the Fighting Scots who put six on the board and took the lead 7-5. Goals were scored by Cam Kennedy, assisted by Kody Gould on a man-up opportunity and Rice from Ellis on another man-up opportunity.

After the half both teams pressured hard on defense leaving little room for offensive plays to happen. Wooster was able to get the only goal in the third quarter and improved their lead 8-5. The Tigers came back strong in the fourth quarter, starting with a goal from Klever on a man-up opportunity. Freshman, Kody Gould got his first goal of the game unassisted to bring the Tigers within one of Wooster. Klever came back with another goal at 10:20 to tie the game 8-8 before Wooster was able to pull ahead 9-8. Gould got his third career goal from an assist from Ellis to tie the game once again with a 9-9 score. Wittenberg was able to take the lead with an unassisted goal from Logan Vachon in the remaining six minutes of play but the Fighting Scots were able to tie the game one more time. Ellis picked up two more goals, one assisted by Robert Martin, while Holton Boehmer got his first collegiate goal off of an assist from Gould.

The Tigers kept their lead and took down Wooster with a final score of 13-10. Splitting time in the goal for Wittenberg was Paxton Kreger who face fifteen shots and had seven saves and Max Cavellier with one save on three shots.

Up Next: The Tigers will be back in action on April 3rd to take on Transylvania at home. Game time is set for 2PM. Only pre-registered spectators will be allowed attendance at the match-up at Edwards-Maurer Field. All fans will be able to watch the at wittenbergtigers.com
