Tigers Defeat Capital 15-14 in Last Second Decision
Thomas Fuss netted the game-winning goal for the Tigers with 29 seconds remaining in regulation.
BEXLEY, Ohio—Wittenberg men's lacrosse team gutted out a 15-14 on the road against non-conference opponent, Capital University Wednesday night. The Tigers led 9-6 at the break, and controlled most of the second-half before Capital came roaring back to tie the game up at 14-14 with 49 seconds remaining in regulation. In the end, it was Thomas Fuss (New Albany, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) who broke the tie with 26 seconds remaining. The non-conference victory puts the Tigers at a 3-2 mark on the young season, as Capital moves to 5-2 on the year.
GAME BREAKDOWN
- Austin Brady (Pickerington, Ohio/North) netted three goals in the first-half for Wittenberg, helping his team take a 9-6 lead into the locker room at the break.
- Thomas Fuss was able to score two of his four goals in the third-quarter, as both teams each scored three goals in the quarter that ended with Wittenberg on top 12-9.
- Andrew Fuss (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) and his brother Thomas combined for five goals and three assists on the night, as the duo combined for two key assists and a goal in the decisive fourth and final quarter.

- Eight different Tigers found the back of the net for the road-team, as Thomas Fuss led all scorers with four goals, with fellow Tiger Sean Kelleher (Lake Forest, Illinois/Lake Forest) finished with a hat-trick.
- Wittenberg controlled the draw going 19-33 from the faceoff circle in the victory.
- On the offensive end, both teams were evenly matched, registering 43 shots apiece.

- "I am really happy how our team persevered tonight in a back and forth game…We could have easily been broken, but we stayed positive and kept going. We knew going in that Capital would play for all 60 minutes, as my hat is off to them. Definitely happy to get the win," said Coach Owen.
