Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger Baseball team swept the Yellow Jackets of Waynesburg University for their second consecutive doubleheader sweep and extending their current win streak to their longest of the season out to five games.

Defeating Waynesburg in game one by a final score, 9-2, in game one. The Wittenberg offense erupted in game two, swatting down the Yellow Jackets in seven innings, 17-2. Wittenberg tallied seven hits in game one and a season-high 22 hits in game two.

Conor O'Malley and Ian Ash were the only two Tigers to tally a pair of hits in the opening game of the afternoon. O'Malley posting a pair of doubles, going 2 of 3 from the plate with two RBI and one run scored. Ash capped things off in the sixth inning with his first big fly of the season, launching a two-run homer to straight away center field, giving Wittenberg the 9-2 advantage.

Working out of the bullpen through the early going, Joe Horoszko, earned his first win of this 2023 campaign for the Tigers. Horoszko tossed five innings with five hits allowed, striking out three with just two runs allowed against 18 batters faced. Charlie Schafer secured the save in game one, closing the door on the Yellow Jackets, with two innings pitched. Schafer struck out three without a hit surrendered against six batters faced.

Wittenberg filled up the scoreboard in the second game, scoring in each inning but the third. The Tiger defense was flawless throughout the series against the Yellow Jackets, with zero errors in two games and allowing Waynesburg just one run in each the second and fifth inning.

Chase Whisner went 4 for 4 in in the second game, driving in five runs which included a pair of doubles. Rocco Royer added an extra-base hit for the Wittenberg effort, going 2 for 2 during his time at the plate with two RBI. Luke Thomas added a pair of doubles, finishing game two 2 for 3 with three RBI with one run scored.

James MacAuley (3), Ben Seibert (3), Dylan Jackson (2), and Ash (2) all tallied multiple hits in the closing game against the Yellow Jackets.

Nate Floyd secured his second consecutive win from the mound for the Tigers. With five innings pitched, Floyd allowed six hits and two runs with five strikeouts, against 23 batters faced. Andrew Rust and Tommy Chilicki combined to close out the final two innings, each striking out one and without surrendering a hit.

Wittenberg will return to action this Saturday and Sunday, March 25-26, hosting Albion College for a three-game series. First pitch on Saturday is set for 2:00 PM.
