Wittenberg Athletics Spring Sport Season Cancelled

Given the current status of COVID-19, effective Monday, March 16, Wittenberg University is canceling all spring sport competitions and practices for the remainder of the school year. The health and well-being of our student-athletes, their families, our staff, as well as the campus and general communities, is of utmost priority. These factors have led us to determine that the most prudent course of action is to align with the recommendations of public health care and government officials to help limit the spread of the virus.

Wittenberg recognizes the profound sadness that this decision will have on our student-athletes, coaches, families, and support staff, especially those student-athletes and families who will not be able to complete their senior year of competition. Know that this decision is extremely difficult for us to have to make and that we acknowledge how disappointed many of you will be.

All spring sport student-athletes should follow the University’s housing guidelines and return home as soon as possible. Additionally, Wittenberg athletics is working with the NCAA and the NCAC regarding questions around student-athlete participation and eligibility as well as the appropriate activities that can be conducted as per NCAA Legislation while competition and practices have been suspended. Student-athletes will receive this information as soon as it becomes available.

Thank you to all of you for your patience, resiliency, and understanding during these tremendously challenging times. We have all the confidence in our department and University to come together, to “Tiger Up” and to grow stronger, together. You all are showing us what it means to “build champions for a lifetime” and we could not be prouder of each and every one of you.
