Ryan Maurer joined the staff at Wittenberg University in July 2000. He spent more than 15 years as the Director of Athletics Communications, in addition to holding the title of Director of News Services from 2001-08. From 2016-23, Maurer served as Senior Writer and Web Content Manager for the Office of University Communications before moving into his current role of Associate Director of Athletics for Communications, Web Strategy & Content in November 2023.

In his current position, Maurer is responsible for oversight of the University's athletics communications operations. He also manages content for both the University website and the Athletics website, and he manages numerous social media accounts.

A 1994 graduate of Miami University, Maurer holds a bachelor's degree in English Literature, with a specialization in Journalism, and he later earned a master's degree in Education, with a specialization in Sport Management, from Cleveland State University. He started his career as a sports writer, first with Suburban News Publications in Columbus, Ohio, and later with The Daily Record in Wooster, Ohio. After earning his master's degree while spending a year as a graduate assistant in Cleveland State's sports information office, Maurer spent nearly two years as a writer and editor at Spectrum Publications in Orrville, Ohio.

In 1995, Maurer earned a pair of awards for sports writing from the Society of Professional Journalists. He was recognized in 2007 and 2008 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as the Great Lakes Region recipient of the Grant Burger Award. Maurer also helped create the Integrated Media Corps (IMC), a unique internship designed for students preparing to enter the field of multimedia production, in 2010. A collaborative program operated by the University's academic Department of Communication & Digital Media and administrative Office of University Communications, IMC was named a "Program of Excellence" by the Ohio Communication Association in 2014.

A native of Maumee, Ohio, Maurer lives in Springfield with his wife, Heather. They have two sons, Joshua and Justin. Maurer has been a licensed youth soccer referee since 2017, and he officiates approximately 100 games each year. He has also served as a board member for the Miami Valley Youth Soccer Association (MVYSA) since 2011.
