Fred Mitchell was one of the first placekicking specialists in college football. In his four-year career between 1965 and 1968 he set an NCAA College Division record for career kick scoring, 12 school records and five OAC marks and still holds the school mark career extra points with 106. The Gary, Ind. native has been a sportswriter for the Chicago Tribune for 21 years. He is now the Excutive Producer at Jordan & Jordan Communications.
