SPRINGFIELD, OH - The Wittenberg Tigers put their first mark in the win column in their 2025 home opener against Asbury, powered by Sarah Deaton (Monroe, OH / Monroe) and her first career hat trick.
The 4-2 victory moved Wittenberg to 1-1-2 on the young season, while Asbury suffered its first setback to fall to 2-1-1.
Deaton gave the Tigers some early momentum with an unassisted goal in the seventh minute. Wittenberg was stymied offensively the rest of the first half, however, despite holding an 8-4 advantage in shots and a 9-4 edge in corner kick opportunities.
Five more goals were scored in the second half, starting with Deaton's second tally in the 57th minute off an assist from Ashley Green (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy). After Asbury pulled one back seven minutes later, Deaton completed her hat trick at the 71:11 mark by pouncing on a loose ball in the box off a corner kick.
The Tigers put the game out of reach at the 76:02 mark as Caroline Stupp (Waynesville, OH / Waynesville) found the back of the net. Reagan Williams (Beavercreek, OH / Beavercreek) was credited with the assist.
For the game, Wittenberg held a commanding 22-8 advantage in shots and the Tigers were awarded 15 corner kicks, compared to five for Asbury. Deaton led Wittenberg with six shots in the game, followed by Abby Borland (Dayton, OH / Fairmont) with four shots and Stupp with three.
