Men's Swimming & Diving Falls to Hiram in Dual Meet
SPRINGFIELD, OH - Wittenberg men's swimming and diving team hosted its first dual meet of the season, but was not able to keep pace with conference opponent Hiram, as the Tigers fell short by a score of 125-70.
In the first event of the morning, the 200 yard medley relay, the team of Owen Gabel (New Bremen, OH/New Bremen), Mason Steen (LeRoy, OH/Riverside), Tatum Paglia (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis), and Orry Farrington (Waterville, OH/Anthony Wayne) finished second, posting a time of 1:49.83.
Ethan Towle (Centerville, OH/Centerville) was the lone Tiger swimmer in the 1000 yard freestyle and he placed third, with a time of 11:40.39, while Steen finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.58.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Farrington, Nathan Rabun (Marion, OH/Wynford) and Andrew Tackett (Cuyahoga Falls, OH/St. Vincent- St. Mary) notched the third through fifth place finishes.
Aidan Dannenfelser (Cincinnati, OH/St. Xavier) and Ronald Wynn (Columbus, OH/New Albany) competed in the 200-yard IM, placing second and fourth respectively.
Gabel was the only competitor for the men in the 1-meter dive and he posted a score of 145.75, he also competed in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing second with a time of 1:03.69.
Paglia, Dannefelser and Wynn all swam the 100-yard butterfly, finishing second through fourth, while Farrington and Rabun recorded second and fourth-place finishes in the 100 yard freestyle.
In the 500 yard freestyle, Towle and Tackett recorded third and fifth place finishes, with Towle also placing second in the 100-yard backstroke and Wynn finishing fourth.
In the final event of the meet, Paglia, Rabun, Dannefelser and Steen competed in the 200-yard freestyle and placed second.
Wittenberg hits the road for its next meet on Saturday, November 2, as the Tigers travel to Transylvania to compete in a double dual meet with Wilmington. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
