Tiger Teams Split With Ohio Northern
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The wittenberg swimming and diving teams split a home meet with the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern on Friday, the women cruising to a 152-89 win to stay perfect at 6-0 in dual meets and the men falling 171.5-71.5 to move to 4-2 on the season.

The women started the meet on the right foot with back-to-back wins in the 200 medley relay and the 1000 freestyle. The team of sophomore Sarah Wilson (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe), sophomore Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard), senior Keaton Hannon (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh) and junior Ward McNulty (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier) won by nearly two seconds in the relay and junior Claire Shannon (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) took home an individual win in the 1000 free.
McNulty kept the winning going with a 25.68 swim in the 50 free, followed by a 2:16.78 win by junior Jane Tsivitse (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) in the 200 individual medley. Hannon became the second repeat winner with a 1:01.45 finish in the 100 butterfly, and Tsivitse became the third with a 55.97 time in the 100 free.
Wilson made it an even four repeats in the 100 backstroke on a time of 1:02.22, and Shannon upped the total to five with a 5:26.50 500 freestyle performance. Gustafson brought the total to six with a 1:08.86 in the 100 breaststroke.
The 200 medley relay team remained half intact for a win in the 200 freestyle relay, with Wilson and McNulty reprising their roles, joined by freshman Logan Griffith (Pickerington, Ohio/North) and Tsivitse to round out the first-place finishes for the women.
Senior Gus Appenbrink (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 278.70, and added a 245.55 win in the 3-meter dive later in the meet.
Freshman Ed Young (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) turned in a second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle on a time of 10:52.67, followed by freshman AJ Burt's (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) second-place showing in the 200 freestyle.
Freshman James Dumstorf (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) added a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley, matched by senior Teddy Hutchinson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) in the 100 backstroke before Burt repeated in second place in the 500 freestyle. Burt finished second again in the 100 breaststroke to round out the meet for the men.
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow at Oberlin at 3 p.m., the last dual meet before the New Year. The teams travel to DePauw and Rose-Hulman for swimming and diving invitationals, respectively, and will resume their schedules in 2012 at Denison on Jan. 13.
