Tigers Unable to Pull the Upset Against the Battling Bishops

Springfield, OH -- Wednesday evening the Wittenberg Tigers hosted the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops in their final home game of the regular season at Edwards-Maurer Field. After posting two goals in the first half, the Tigers were unable to make a comeback, falling to the Bishops 2-1. The Tigers were forced to play stellar defense, holding the Bishops to only having nine total shots on goal. Keeper Jason Bowen got his hands on seven of the nine shots, making his save percentage .754 on the season.

It was a physical game with six cards being drawn, four from OWU. The Tigers backline was held down by junior defender Danny Kukanza keeping the play to the outside lines, minimizing the cross passes into the penalty box. With the Bishops up 2-0 at half time, Wittenberg continued to play full force, eventually tiring the Bishop midfield giving the Tigers multiple breakaways within their offensive. A foul was drawn in the penalty box giving Wittenberg a chance to get on the board. The shot was taken by senior Eli Esterline, sending it to the back right corner of the goal in the 86th minute, making the final 2-1.

The Tigers will have their final regular season match on the road Saturday, October 30 against the Gators of Allegheny. First touch is at 12 p.m.
