Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg University men's soccer team picked up their first win of the 2017 season, taking down the Lions of Mount St. Joseph 4-2 in the home opener from Edwards-Maurer Field on Wednesday Night. The Tigers opened the scoring early just three and a half minutes into the game when David Quayle found Austin Lewis for his first goal of the season. Wittenberg was back on the attack just a minute after their first goal when Sam Bechtel found the back of the net for the first time at the 4:35 mark. Alberto Zaragoza capped off the Tigers scoring in the second half, burying a breakaway goal in the back of the net in the 77th minute.
GAME NOTES
- Lewis found the back of the net for the second time to start the second half, drawing the foul in the Lions box and capitalizing on the ensuing penalty kick.
- Two goals at the end of the first half made way for Jack Snider to get the second half start, making two saves on two MSJ shots.
- Wittenberg fired rattled off 12 shots, placing six on target.
