BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Wittenberg men's soccer was unable to make a 2-0 lead stand up after allowing three second-half goals in a span of 22 minutes to host Bluffton in a 3-2 non-conference defeat.
The loss evened Wittenberg's record at 3-3-1, while Bluffton improved to 2-3. It was the Tigers' third straight setback after a 3-0-1 start to the 2012 season.
The scoring opened with an unassisted tally off the foot of senior Alejandro Garcia (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis) in the 36th minute. Senior Marshall Rowland (Pewee Valley, Ky./South Oldham) made it 2-0 in the 58th minute off a slick feed from senior Daniel Broidy (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley).
From that point, it was all Bluffton as the Beavers scored in the 63rd, 72nd and 85th minutes. For the game, the Tigers outshot Bluffton 18-8, but the saves count went 7-2 in the home team's favor.
Rowland led the Tigers with five shots in the game, while junior Kevin Bond (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) and Garcia added three apiece.
Wittenberg returns home for a game against Mount St. Joseph at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19.
