Late Adrian Rally Stuns Tigers In Home Loss
The Wittenberg men's lacrosse team lost at home by the hands of Adrian College after a shocking fourth period rally.
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg men's lacrosse team lost at home by the hands of Adrian College after a shocking fourth period rally. The Tigers lost 9-11 to drop to marks of 4-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Adrian, which improved to 3-6 on the year, played from behind for most of the first three periods. The Red and White came out strong, scoring six goals in the first half and contributing three more in the third period. However, the Tigers could not keep the momentum as the Bulldogs put together a five-goal rally in the fourth period.
Offensively for the Tigers, freshman Matt Lord (Pickerington, Ohio/North) led his team in scoring with three goals. Also contributing for Wittenberg was sophomoreJeff Capella (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) with two goals, while sophomore Mike Reinberg (St. Louis, Mo./DeSmet Jesuit) led the team with three assists and freshmen Matt Snider (Cookeville, Tenn./Cookeville) added two.
Defensively, senior Chris Martin (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) did his part by racking up a collegiate-best and game-high total of 11 ground balls. Freshmen goalkeeper Mark DeOliveira (East Hanover, NJ/East Hanover) racked up a high of 11 saves on the night.
The Tigers will try to turn things around when they face Oberlin on the road at 1 p.m. Saturday.
