Tigers Topple Terriers In NCAC Showdown

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger men's basketball team ran away with their second consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference win of the week, defeating the Hiram College Terriers, 84-54. The Tigers were clicking on all cylinders, knocking down 53 percent from the field, converting on 11 of 23 from beyond the arc. Three Wittenberg Tigers tallied double figures in the scorebook, led by Ridge Young and Josh Tolliver with 17 points apiece. Landon Martin stepped up in reserve for the Tigers, providing a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while dishing out three assists. The Wittenberg defense held strong, allowing Hiram to shoot just 31 percent from the floor and an ice-cold 3 of 20 from deep.

The Tigers separated themselves early taking a 38-20 lead over the Terriers into the break. Tolliver was perfect from the floor to start the day, knocking down all five of his attempts from the floor. Martin went 4 of 6, grabbing 6 of his 10 rebounds. The second half welcomed a whole host of new Tigers onto the floor, as the Red and White maintained a 30-point advantage throughout the backstretch. Young, Martin, along with Jeff Queen led the scoring charge for the Tigers in the second half, combining for 26 of Wittenberg's 46 points.

The Tigers outworked the Terriers in nearly every major statistical category, taking the rebound margin 37-32. Wittenberg saw the benefits of the deep bench, as the Tiger reserves outscored the Terriers 39-20.

NCAC LEADERS

Boettcher has worked his way into the Top 20 in the NCAC in rebounds, averaging 5.5 per contest. Shooting just over 51 percent in 10 games this season, Tolliver has secured his spot in the Top 10 in the NCAC for field goals. Young holds the top three-point shooting spot in the league, converting on nearly 49 percent from beyond the arc. Martin and Young both hold a top spot for field-goal percentage, Martin in the second spot and Young at number five.
