Wittenberg Shuts Out Wooster To Remain Unbeaten
No one said staying unbeaten would be easy, but the Tigers found a way to grind out a road victory at Wooster by the minimum difference. Junior Brian Glenn (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) gave the Tigers the game winner on a penalty kick coming in the 53rd minute to move the Tigers to 11-0-0 on the season and 2-0-0 to start North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play.
WOOSTER, Ohio - No one said staying unbeaten would be easy, but the Tigers found a way to grind out a road victory at Wooster by the minimum difference. Junior Brian Glenn (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) gave the Tigers the game winner on a penalty kick coming in the 53rd minute to move the Tigers to 11-0-0 on the season and 2-0-0 to start North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play.
In a foul-filled contest which featured a total of six cautions and 39 fouls, the Tigers controlled the contest, firing 20 shots to Wooster's five. Wooster would keep the game scoreless through halftime, looking to keep the Tigers off balanced and disrupt an offense that has led the league in scoring.
In the second half, the crucial mistake for the Scots came right on the heels of a pair of yellow cards issued to both Wooster and Wittenberg. Moments later, the Scots committed a foul in the area, with Glenn giving the Tigers all the offense they would need.
On defense, freshman Michael Lambeck (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and his back line kept the home side in check, only forcing one save from the freshman netminder.
Next for the Tigers will be the Yeomen of Oberlin College, who will visit Springfield on Homecoming Weekend. The NCAC rivals will clash at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Edwards-Maurer Field.
