Hurguy and Orsmby Lead Tigers to Overtime Win
Springfield, OH- Wittenberg returned home for a match-up on Edwards-Maurer Field to kick off homecoming. The Tigers met the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan for their second conference match-up of the season. The Red & White have faced off with OWU 74 times in program history with a record of 46-23-5 and a 5-2 record in the past four years. Wittenberg looked to pick up the first win of homecoming weekend and in an exciting overtime play, pulled off a 2-1 win.
The Tigers were led by senior Allison Orsmby who pulled off her second overtime goal this season and junior Emma Hurguy who tallied 14 saves on the day to keep the Red & White safe defensively. Ohio Wesleyan was able to get on the board in the second quarter, leaving Wittenberg down 1-0 heading into the half. Starting off the third quarter was Ormsby with an assist from Caroline Ford. The Tigers would spend the fourth quarter battling it out with the Fighting Bishops with both teams trying to control the ball before heading into overtime. This would be the third time Wittenberg has seen overtime play this year, splitting the first two with one win and one loss. The Tigers looked to the third quarter duo to get through OWU defense in the remaining minutes of overtime. Ormsby was able to do just that with another assist from Ford to take the game 2-1.
The Tigers were able to draw nine penalty corners and take 12 shots during the game, while Emma Hurguy was able to pick up 14 saves in the cage. Wittenberg currently stands at number five in the conference with 1 win and 1 loss in conference play and 7-5 overall.
NCAC Stats Leaders- Allison Ormsby is currently ranked number two in the NCAC for goals on the season with eight. Right behind Ormsby in fifth is Regan Mazzulli with six goals. Caroline Ford jumped up to number four in the conference for assists with three on the season after today's game. Also, in the top ten for assists are Mazzulli, Ormsby, Katie Webber, and Lilye Morrison all tied at number eight with two assists each.
Allison Ormsby sits near the top, at number two for points on the season with 18. Just behind her in fourth is Regan Mazzulli with 14. Webber makes the top ten at number ten for points with ten.
On the defensive side, Shannon Csordos is tied at number five in the NCAC for defensive saves while Emma Hurguy currently ranks number two in NCAC goalie leaders for saves with 71 and number three for saves per game with 5.92 and a .826 save percentage per game (number five for save percentage).
The Tigers will return home tomorrow on Edwards-Maurer Field against Kenyon at 1PM.
