Tigers Conclude Season With Loss At DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Wittenberg Tigers closed out the 2013 regular season with a 6-1 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) loss at first-place DePauw.
The win clinched a second straight regular season league title for DePauw, which advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament semifinals a year ago. Ranked nationally throughout the 2013 season, DePauw finished the regular season with records of 15-4 overall and 13-1 in the league, while Wittenberg rounded out the season at 8-11 overall and 6-8 in the NCAC.
DePauw made sure there would be no upset with five goals in the first 20 minutes of the game. After the host Tigers made it 6-0 with a goal in the 40th minute, Wittenberg finally got on the board with 2:10 remaining on a score by junior Beth Warning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame). The assist went to freshman Eva van Dijkman (Den Haag, Netherlands/Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet).
DePauw held a 21-2 advantage in shots in the game, and the host Tigers finished with 13 penalty corners to five for Wittenberg. In goal, freshman Sarah Brownell (Ocnomowoc, Wis./University Lake School) contributed 10 saves.
