Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University field hockey standout Boo Vernon, class of 2011 from Lake Bluff, Ill., has been selected to participate in the prestigious National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Senior Game scheduled for 9 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 21, on the campus of Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va.
Vernon is one of 38 players chosen to participate in the annual game. She is the first Tiger student-athlete selected since Blair Ufer, class of 2005, was selected at the conclusion of the 2004 season. Carrie Happ, class of 2005, was an alternate for the game that year.
Vernon has etched her name into the Wittenberg record books. She holds school records for career total points (192), goals (77) and assists (38) while earning All-North Coast Athletic Conference and All-Great Lakes Region honors each of the last three years, in addition to All-America honors in 2008 and 2009. Her point total currently ranks third among active NCAA Division III players and 26th in NCAA Division III history.
Vernon and her fellow seniors have led the Tigers to three NCAC regular season titles and a berth in the 2009 NCAA Division III Tournament. Wittenberg has records of 49-25 overall and 38-12 in the NCAC regular season during that span.
Wittenberg heads into today's NCAC Tournament semifinal game against Denison with records of 14-3 overall and 11-1 in the NCAC. The Tigers, who started the season 2-2 before winning 12 of their last 13 regular season games, won the 2010 NCAC regular season title for a conference-record 10th time with a program-best 11 wins.
