SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Former football standout Dillon Hollin, class of 2010, got a big surprise during Thanksgiving weekend 2010 - a call from his former coach, Joe Fincham, to tell him that he had recently been selected winner of the 2009 Rimington Award, given to the top center in NCAA Division III.

WHITEWATER, Wisc. — The Wittenberg Tigers went toe-to-toe with one of the nation's best in the NCAA Division III Tournament quarterfinals, eventually falling out of the national competition by a deceiving 31-13 margin to second-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers got back to basics in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, and the result was a workmanlike 34-17 victory over visiting Trine University. The win, Wittenberg's 19th in 29 all-time NCAA Division III Tournament games, advanced the Tigers to the national quarterfinals for the fourth time since 1998 but the first time since 2001.

Now they hit the road for their most significant test yet in the 2009 season. Next up is the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, one of the two dominant programs in all of NCAA Division III over the last five years.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — After a sluggish first half, the Wittenberg Tigers broke open a close game in the third quarter and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament with a 42-14 over Mount St. Joseph. Much like the week before when the Tigers capped the 18th undefeated regular season in school history with a 42-6 win over archrival Wooster, coaches and players alike celebrated for a short time and then got right back to business.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Wabash senior Matt Hudson and Wittenberg junior Eddie Vallery have been honored for outstanding seasons by being named North Coast Athletic Conference Players of the Year. Hudson receives the Mike Gregory Award as the NCAC's Offensive Player of the Year. The award is presented by Richard Gregory of Columbus, in honor of his father, a multi-sport standout at Denison in the 1920s. Vallery, meanwhile, is the Defensive Player of the Year and receives the Hank Critchfield Award, commemorating the 1927 Wooster graduate.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — A 21-point third quarter outburst - fueled by two turnovers and a blocked punt by an opportunistic, hard-hitting defense - gave the Wittenberg Tigers the necessary momentum to pull away from the College of Mount St. Joseph for a 42-14 win in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The photos of Wittenberg players singing the fight song and embracing the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) trophy were still being downloaded after the Wittenberg Tigers' 42-6 Senior Recognition Day victory over arch-rival Wooster when Head Coach Joe Fincham and his team turned their attention to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The message: there is plenty of work left to do in 2009.
