Wittenberg University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) names its Tigers of the Month during its regularly scheduled meetings throughout each school year.
Sam Bott
Men's Swimming & Diving (November, 2015)
The Wittenberg Men’s Swimming and Diving team has received a boost from a newcomer, as freshman Sam Bott has captured multiple first-place finishes in the young 2015-2016 season. The Des Moines, Iowa native came out ofthe gate strong in November, taking the top spot at the Wilmington Tri-Meet in the 800-meter freestyle, before going on to post a doublewin day at the Ohio Northern meet, with wins in the 1000 and 500-yard freestyle races.
Blaine Donnelly
Field Hockey (November, 2015)
Freshman Blaine Donnelly was a steady presence for the Wittenberg Field Hockey team this season. Donnelly not only saw action in 18 games as a newcomer, but she tallied 13 goals in her first collegiate season for the Tigers. The Hanover, Maryland native helped guide the Tigers to a 8-6 record in conference, and a trip to the NCAC Tournament.
Garrett Brickley
Men's Golf (November, 2015)
Junior golfer Garrett Brickley put together career best numbers in the fall of 2015. Brickley’s best week came at the end of October at the O’Brian-Jensen Memorial in North Carolina. The Pickerington, Ohio native finshed second overall with a two-day score of 149 (75-74). Brickley’s outstanding play helped the Tigers take second out of 18 teams on the week.
Erin Hord
Women's Cross Country (November, 2015)
Erin Hord paced the Tigers in 2015, garnishing multiple top individual performances by a Wittenberg runner. Hord finished in 128th place at the Great Lakes NCAA Division III Regional on November 14th. She was among five Tigers to score points at the regional as the Tigers checked in at 28th. The Madison, Ohio native enjoyed a stellar year of personal bests in 2015.
Alberto Zaragoza
Men's Soccer (Oct. 2, 2015)
The Wittenberg men’s soccer team has gotten an offensive boost from a newcomer as freshman Alberto Zaragoza has tallied five goals and two assists for a team-leading 12 total points through the first five weeks of the 2015 season. Three of his five goals have been scored in games won by the Tigers, who are 3-6-2 overall (thru Oct. 2). As a team, Wittenberg has scored 20 goals through its first 11 games, and Zaragoza has contributed directly to seven of them.
Michelle Brunswick
Women's Soccer (Oct. 2, 2015)
Junior Michelle Brunswick is a steady presence on defense for the Wittenberg women’s soccer team, which has allowed just 18 goals through the first 10 games of the 2015 season (thru Oct. 2). Brunswick has started all 10 games as the Tigers have compiled a 5-4-1 overall record and posted a pair of shutouts. In addition, Brunswick joined the offense to score a goal on a header in a 4-1 win over Wilmington.
Corey Stump
Football (Oct. 2, 2015)
Senior wide receiver Corey Stump has definitely saved the best for last in his collegiate career, starting his final season in the Red & White with 21 receptions through the first three games. Thru Oct. 2, Stump ranks fourth in the North Coast Athletic Conference and in the top 50 in all of NCAA Division III in receptions per game, highlighted by a record-tying 14-catch outing against Ohio Wesleyan on Sept. 19. Stump earned NCAC Offensive Player of the Week and D3football.com Team of the Week honors after turning those 14 catches into 234 yards and four touchdowns, both of which stand second in program history. Wittenberg is off to a 2-1 start to the 2015 season.
Jane Hopkinson-Wood
Women's Golf (Oct. 2, 2015)
After breaking new ground in her first collegiate season by leading Wittenberg women’s golf to a second-place NCAA Tournament finish and becoming the program’s first-ever All-American, sophomore Jane Hopkinson-Wood has picked up right where she left off. Hopkinson-Wood has led the Tigers to three straight tournament victories to open the 2015-16 season, posting a team-best scoring average of 74.17 and earning NCAC Player of the Week honors following her medalist performance in the St. Mary’s O’Brien Invitational. Hopkinson-Wood has finished in the top 10 in each of her first three tournaments, and at the O’Brien she broke school records for one and two-round scoring as the Tigers posted the best one and two-round team scores as well.
