The late Joseph H. Keyser was a pioneer of Wittenberg atheletics. He played football and baseball and is reported to be the first Wittenberg played to score using the drop kick in a game against Otterbein in 1899. He later became Wittenberg's first full-time athletic director and coach. Keyser, who also earned a divinity degree from Hamma, had a 24-25 record as a basketball coach and a 14-22 record as a football mentor.
His son, "Little Joe" Keyser, '29, was inducted into the Hall of Honor last year. The Keysers become the first father-son inductees into Wittenberg's Hall of Honor.
