The College of Wooster men's tennis team split a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference matches this weekend, defeating Wittenberg University 7-0 and falling to Ohio Wesleyan University, 4-3.
Against Wittenberg on Saturday, Wooster was aided by Wittenberg not fielding a No. 3 doubles team or No. 6 singles player.
Wooster, led by Arnav Yadav and Namit Misra, took care of the No. 1 doubles match, 7-5, while Anthony VanOyen and Ian Royse won the No. 2 doubles match, 6-1.
In singles play, VanOyen won the No. 1 flight after a first set loss, 1-6, 6-1, 7-5, while the Scots took care of the rest of the flights in straight sets.
At the No. 2 flight, Yadav won 6-2, 6-1. At No. 3, Royse captured a 6-4, 6-2 win.
Bennett Dickerson took a 6-3, 6-4 win the No. 4 flight, and Misra won 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 5 flight.
On Sunday versus Ohio Wesleyan, Wooster failed to secure the doubles point but came back to take the top three singles flights. However, when the final two singles flights went to three sets, Wooster was on the wrong end of each.
VanOyen won the No. 1 flight rather easily, 6-1, 6-2, while Arnav had a challenge at No. 2 in a 6-1, 6-7 (6), 6-3 win. Meanwhile, Royse won 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 3 flight.
Misra lost 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 4 flight. Dickerson lost 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 5, and Walker Wood took a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 loss at No. 6.
In doubles, Misra and Yadav fell at No. 1, 6-3, but Royse and VanOyen won 6-2 at No. 2. At No. 3, Dickerson and Wood challenged but ultimately fell 7-6 (1).
Wooster moves to 7-6 overall and 1-2 in the NCAC. They will host Wabash College and DePauw University next weekend.
