Tiger Triangular Opens Outdoor Season

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg returned outdoors for the first time since the 2019 season in their Tiger Triangular meet against Trine University and Ohio Wesleyan. The debut for the Tigers ended with third place finishes on both the men's and women's side.

Leading the women in placement was senior, Alexis Gray with two first-place finishes in the women's 800-meter and 1500-meter. Junior, Lauren Welker joined Gray at the top with a first-place finish in the 3000-meter race with a time of 11:11.21.

A handful of Tigers picked up second place finishes to help Wittenberg. Sophomore, Hannah Schartz started her outdoor season with a second-place finish in the women's high jump with a height of 1.57m. Also grabbing a second- place finish was Stevie Plikerd in the long jump and the women's 100-meter with a distance of 5.43m and time of 13.15. Following Plikerd in the 10- meter was junior, Maxine Wishman with a third-place finish and time of 13.50.

Along with Wishman, Tiffany Moss found herself in third place in the 100-meter hurdle with a time of 18.64. While, Leah Vogt took third in the discus throw and distance of 31.79m.

The women had a final score of 73, compared to Trine's 118 and Ohio Wesleyan's 130 points for a team finish of third.

On the men's side five individual Tigers and both relay teams finished in the top three. Vincent Roper picked up the men's only individual first-place finish in the men's high jump with a height of 1.78m. Grabbing second-place finishes were Ian McCandlish, Deven Ramsey, and Garrin Bachinski in their respective events. McCandlish finished the 400-meter race with a time of 50.84 for a second-place finish, while Ramsey picked up two second-place spots in the 1500-meter at 4:11.00 and in the 800-meter at 1:59.13. Bachinski picked up his best finish of the day in the 400-meter hurdles at 58.68, beating out eight competitors. Bachinski also grabbed a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.19. Joining him with a third-place finish was Sainey in the 5000-meter with a finish of 15:35.76.

The men's 4x100-meter team, comprised of Matthew Drovdlic, Ezekiel Bennet, Austyn Albanese, and Matt Rogers took home a first-place finish over Ohio Wesleyan with a time of 43.80. And the men's 4x400-meter team, made up of Chance Keller, Albanese, Sam Callinan, and Roper finished in third with a time of 3:31.09.

The men had a final score of 74 compared to Ohio Wesleyan's 125 and Trine's 143 points for a team finish of third.
