Both Track and Field Programs Show Strong at Big Red Invitational

GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Both Tiger track and field programs appeared strong at the Big Red Invitational on Friday evening, hosted by Denison University. This meet marked the last chance for many teams to prepare for the upcoming conference championship. Wittenberg stood tall against a tough field, recording multiple top finishes on the day.

 

WOMEN'S TOP FINISHES

  • Anissa Dann (Hiram, Maine/Sacopee Valley) threw for seventh place with a throw of 38.22 meters for the hammer throw early in the evening.
  • The 4x100 meter-relay team of Samantha Mitchell (Solon, Ohio / Solon), Sara Richards (Columbus, Ohio / Gahanna Lincoln), Brea Medlock (Galena, Ohio/Big Walnut), and Alaina Longshore (Columbus, Ohio / Franklin Heights) started the running events off with a first place win with a time of 48.46 seconds.
  • Four of the top eight finishers in the 100 meter finals were Wittenberg sprinters, with Medlock finishing in second place at 12.72 seconds, Odunayo Shobo (Columbus, Ohio / Westland) with fourth at 13.19 seconds, Mitchell with sixth at 13.29 seconds, and Longshore with seventh at 13.42 seconds.
  • Jordan Crow (North Las Vegas, Nevada/Palo Verde) finished with a second place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.97 seconds. Crow also added to her big day with a third place finish in the long jump, as the senior recorded a jump of 4.98 meters.
  • Finishing strong with a third place finish in the 400 meter hurdles was Olivia Stevens (Danville, Ind. / Danville Community) with a time of 1:11.74
  • Also taking home a first place finish was Shobo in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.76 seconds.

MEN'S TOP FINISHES

  • Brandon Schauer (Madison, Ohio / -) not only placed seventh in the 800 meter run, he also improved is career best by 6 seconds, dropping below two minutes to 1:59.90
  • Justin Fisher (Fort Wayne, Indiana/Carroll)  took second in the long jump with a jump of 6.12 meters. The jumped 13.32 meters to take second place as well in the triple jump. Wrapping up with javelin, Fisher threw for 49.51 meters for second again.
  • The duo of Laike Wallace (Washington Court House, Ohio / Washington) and Kyle Farnbauch (Hilliard, Ohio / Davidson) dominated the 110 meter high hurdles, taking second and third places respectively with times of 15.61 seconds and 16.96 seconds.
  • Ryan Hale (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville) finished the 400 meter dash in a first place victory, narrowly beating out a competing runner with a time of 51.61 seconds.
  • Leading the Tigers in shot put was DeVonte Anderson (Wooster, Ohio / Wooster)      with a throw of 12.48 meters for second place, closely followed by D'Anthony Dorsey (Winter Haven, Fla. / Lakeland) with 12.47 meters for third.
  • Also showing strong for the men's throwing squad was Eric Cospy (Trotwood, Ohio / Madison) with a second place finish in discus with a throw of 42.79 meters.

UP NEXT

  • The NCAC Multi Championships begin Saturday, April 30th and will continue on Sunday at Oberlin College.
  • Both Tiger programs will return to Denison University for the NCAC Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 6th and 7th.
