Brea Medlock Caps Indoor Season At NCAA Division III Indoor Championships

GRINNELL, Iowa - Senior sprinter Brea Medlock (Galena, Ohio/Big Walnut) posted a pair of strong times in the preliminary heats of her races at the 2016 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships at Grinnell College. She finished 11th in the 60-meter dash and ninth in the 200-meter dash and just missed advancing to the finals in either competition.

Medlock, the 2015 and 2016 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Indoor Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year, started her day with a time of 7.76 in the 60-meter dash. The time was .03 off Medlock's NCAC record time of 7.73, which was good for the 13th seed in the NCAA race.

The top eight runners advanced to the finals. Oniesha Clarke of Misericordia took the final spot with a time of 7.728, while Alexis Harrison of Tufts posted the day's top time of 7.55.

In the 200-meter dash, Medlock posted a time of 25.40 to finish ninth, matching her seed coming into the race. The time was .05 off Medlock's school record of 25.35 established at the NCAC Indoor Championships a week earlier.

Amber Celen of Bridgewater led following the prelims with a time of 24.86. Medlock missed out on a berth in the finals by .07.

"It's a tough one to swallow, being so close to making the finals in both races," said Wittenberg Head Coach Paris Hilliard. "But I'm extremely proud of Brea. She competed hard, and that is all I could have asked for."

Medlock was making her second appearance in the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. She placed 17th in the 60-meter dash and 14th in the 200-meter dash in a meet that took place in Winston-Salem, NC.
