Tigers Compete Well At Cedarville Invitational

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers joined 12 other teams and numerous talented unattached competitors in the Cedarville Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open despite unseasonably cold temperatures.

The results were positive for the Tigers, who finished eighth in both the men's and women's competitions. Wittenberg's men scored 21.5 points as Ohio Northern, Heidelberg and Cedarville took the top positions. Wittenberg's women scored 33 points as Ohio Northern, Cedarville and Otterbein filled the top three spots.

On the men's side, the highlight was provided by senior Justin Yates (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook), who was competing for the first time in several weeks due to injury. He posted a time of 49.58 in the 400 meters to finish first in the event. The time currently ranks 18th in all of NCAA Division III.

Points were also scored for the Tigers by sophomore Alex Owens (Enon, Ohio/Greenon) with a fifth-place finish in the pole vault, freshman Tyler Everidge (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook) with a fifth in the high jump, senior Adam Kapuscinski (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) in sixth in the 800 meters and junior Dan Mason (Springfield, Ohio/Greenon) in eighth in the hammer throw.

Also of note, Wittenberg's throws coach Joel Drake, class of 2002, finished fifth in the overall standings in the hammer throw. He was competing as an unattached thrower.

For the women, the highlight came in the 4x100-meter relay as the Tigers took the top spot. The quartet of freshman Sara Richards (Columbus, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln), sophomore Frankie Bowsher (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln), junior Jordan Crow (North Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) and junior Brea Medlock (Galena, Ohio/Big Walnut) crossed the finish line in a time of 49.62.

Also scoring for the Tiger women was sophomore Alaina Longshore (Columbus, Ohio/Franklin Heights) in third in the 400 meters, Crow in third in the 400-meter hurdles, senior Jeanette Klamfoth (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) in fourth in the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Odunayo Shobo (Columbus, Ohio/Westland) in sixth in the 100 meters, and freshman Elizabeth Walton in seventh in the discus.
