Tigers Make Most Of Denison Last Chance

GRANVILLE, Ohio – A trip to Denison University's Last Chance Invitational, the Wittenberg men's and women's indoor track and field teams made the most of the opportunity, turning in some impressive individual performances in the unscored meet.

Freshman Elizabeth Walton (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) notched a personal record in the weight throw at 12.94 meters, and senior Anthony Williams (Saxonburg, Pennsylvania/Knoch Jr Sr) did the same in the men's version at 11.73 meters. Sticking with the throws, freshman Mallory Sparks (Mechanicsburg, Ohio/Mechanicsburg) put up a personal best in the shot put at 9.56 meters, as did junior Daniel Mason (Springfield, Ohio/Greenon) for the men at 11.5 meters. Mason also placed fifth in the weight throw.

Junior Brea Medlock (Galena, Ohio/Big Walnut) won the 60-meter dash and in the process broke her own school record in the event with a time of 7.87 seconds, good for 34th nationally thus far. Senior Victor Banjo (Sugarland, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) turned in his best time of the season in the men's 60-meter dash at 6.91 seconds, good enough to rank him 11th in the nation currently and to win the event.

Freshman Tyler Everidge (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook) won the high jump at six feet, two inches. Sophomore Alex Owens (Enon, Ohio/Greenon) finished second in the pole vault at 13 feet, five inches, a personal record, and freshman Robert Berkshire (Springfield, Ohio/Tecumseh) also set a personal best in the event at 12 feet, five inches.

Sophomore Erin Hord (Madison, Ohio/Madison), junior Megan Heitkemper (Maineville, Ohio/Kings)  and freshman Stephanie Atkinson (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) each represented the Tigers in the 3,000-meter race and all three posted personal bests, finishing in 11:11, 11:51 and 11:56, respectively. Also running and posting a personal record in the event was sophomore Valerie Halvorsen (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community).

Sophomore Odunayo Shobo (Columbus, Ohio/Westland) placed third in the 60-meter dash with a personal record time of 8.32 seconds, just ahead of fourth-place sophomore Frankie Bowsher (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) at 8.36. In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman Kelsey Fobean (Munroe Falls, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) placed second, and freshman Jada Moore (Columbus, Ohio/South) was fifth in the long jump with a personal record 4.64 meter leap.

The Tigers' next event is the North Coast Athletic Conference Combined Events at Oberlin College over the next two days.
