Tigers Open NCAC Championships With Two Champs

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Wittenberg Tigers had a successful first day at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Oberlin. After one day, the Tigers sit fifth on the men's side and sixth on the women's.

Sophomore Aaron Melsop (Westerville, Ohio/DeSales) was the first male Tiger to compete in the meet and started things off with a bang, winning the long jump on a leap of 6.92 meters to take home All-NCAC honors and the conference title in the event.

The Tigers also boast a conference champion in the women's long jump as sophomore Becah Delp (York, Pa./Eastern York) leapt to All-NCAC honors for a first-place finish on 5.11 meters.

In the preliminaries of the men's 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Laike Wallace (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington) posted the men's other first-place finish on a time of 53.89.

Junior Justin Yates (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook) placed second on a time of 49.33 for the men in the 400-meter dash to qualify for tomorrow's finals along with sixth-place senior Chris Frierson (Dallas, Texas/DeSoto).

Freshman Aliyah Myers (McCordsville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) qualified for the women's 100-meter dash in sixth place, while Melsop finished fifth in the men's edition and will run the event again tomorrow.

Sophomore Brea Medlock (Galena, Ohio/Big Walnut) secured a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash preliminaries with a 59.76 in the race, ahead of fifth-place teammate freshman Alaina Longshore (Columbus, Ohio/Franklin Heights). Medlock also placed third in the 200-meter dash prelims, a few spots ahead of freshman Frankie Bowsher (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) in sixth.

Freshman Sage Pence (Three Rivers, Mich./Centreville) placed fifth in the discus, and freshman Olivia Stevens (Danville, Ind./Danville Community) qualified for the 100-meter hurdles finals with a sixth-place finish in the preliminaries.

In the women's 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Jordan Crow (North Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) and junior Jeannette Klamfoth (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) finished back-to-back in fourth and fifth places to qualify for the finals.

Field events open the Day Two action at 10 a.m. with the javelin. Running events begin on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. with the women's 4x100 relay.
