Tigers Run At Unscored Denison Big Red Invitational

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Wittenberg track and field teams traveled to Denison University for the Big Red Invitational, an unscored meet featuring fellow North Coast Athletic Conference teams Ohio Wesleyan, Kenyon and Wooster, along with appearances by participants from Ohio Christian and Wheeling Jesuit.

Sophomore Aaron Melsop (Westerville, Ohio/DeSales) and sophomore Justin Fisher (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) went one-two in the long jump, on leaps of 6.44 and 6.17 meters, respectively. Melsop also won the 100-meter dash at 11.12 seconds, freshman Alex Owens (Enon, Ohio/Greenon) won the pole vault at 3.96 meters and junior Justin Yates (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook) was at the front of the 400-meter dash.

Sophomore Laike Wallace (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington) posted his best 110-meter hurdles time of the season to finish second in 15.49 seconds. Sophomore Daniel Mason (Springfield, Ohio/Greenon) placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 39.90 meters and Fisher added third-place honors in the triple jump. Freshman Nick Molnar (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) contributed a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter run.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team of junior Austin Butler (Carroll, Ohio/Bloom Carroll), sophomore Brandon Cottman (Franklin, Ohio/Franklin), freshman Michael Dureska (Quincy, Ill./Quincy) and freshman Blake Nelson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) finished third.

The women's 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Aliyah Myers (McCordsville, Ind./Mt. Vernon), freshman Frankie Bowsher (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln), sophomore Brea Medlock (Galena, Ohio/Big Walnut) and freshman Alaina Longshore (Columbus, Ohio/Franklin Heights) placed second in a highly competitive race.

Individually, freshman Olivia Stevens (Danville, Ind./Danville Community) won the 100-meter hurdles and sophomore Becah Delp (York, Pa./Eastern York) placed third, while Medlock was second on a season-best 12.63 seconds in the 100-meter dash. Freshman Lorin Conti (Milford, Ohio/Milford) was the victor in the 3,000-meter run.

Senior Angela Roll (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) tied for second in the high jump at 1.48 meters.

The Tigers now head to the NCAC Championship Meet on Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3, at Oberlin College.
