Tigers Prep For NCAC Indoor Championships At Denison, Wooster

WOOSTER/GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Wittenberg men’s and women’s track and field teams tuned up for the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Indoor Championship meet with a busy weekend at Denison and Wooster.

The highlight of the weekend was a strong performance by freshman Becah Delp (York, Pa./Eastern York), who finished sixth in the Multi-Events portion of the NCAC Championships at Wooster. Over the course of two days, Delp finished sixth in the indoor pentathlon to score three points for the team.

Delp took seventh place in the 800-meter run, 12th in the 60-meter hurdles, seventh in the high jump, second in the long jump and ninth in the shot put to compile 2,799 points in her first collegiate pentathlon competition.

On Friday, Wittenberg competed in the Denison Last Chance Invitational. Among the top individual performances for the women were top-five finishes from junior Cara Vendeville (Perry, Ohio/Perry) and sophomore Shelby Kaho (Sugar Grove, Ohio/Berne Union) in the 60-meter dash, a second-place finish from freshman Brea Medlock (Galena, Ohio/Big Walnut) in the 200-meter dash, and a second-place finish from junior Angela Roll (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) in the high jump.

Rounding things out were event victories for Kaho in the 60-meter hurdles – followed by freshman Jordan Crow (North Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) in second place and sophomore Jeanette Klamfoth (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) in fifth – and Vendeville in the long jump – followed by freshman Ashley Milliner (Beachwood, Ohio/Beachwood) in third place.

On the men’s side, freshman Daniel Emery (Blacklick, Ohio/New Albany) was strong in the 60-meter dash, placing fourth, matching the finish by junior Chris Frierson (Cedar Hill, Texas/DeSoto) in the 200-meter dash. In the 400-meter dash, freshman Asanka Ekanayake (Clarksburg, Mo./Clarksburg) placed third and sophomore Adam Kapuscinski (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) took fifth, while freshman Laike Wallace (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington Court House) picked up third place in the 60-meter hurdles and the high jump.

Freshman Aaron Melsop (Westerville, Ohio/DeSales) took the top spot in the long jump and second place in the triple jump, and junior Theron Swanson (Fairborn, Ohio/Fairborn) earned fifth in the pole vault. Finally, Emery, Frierson, Ekanayake and freshman Justin Fisher (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) teamed up to win the 4x200-meter relay.
