GRANVILLE, Ohio – Wittenberg women's golf finished third in the nation in 2016, and over the opening weekend of Division III golf in 2016-17, the Tigers picked up right where they left off with a first-place finish in Denison's Lynn Schweizer Invitational.

Wittenberg posted a two-day total of 610, nine strokes better than the first place finish a year ago in the invitational, taking the top spot by a whopping 29 strokes over NCAC rival DePauw.

Wittenberg utilized a day two finish that featured a measly 297 strokes, with the next lowest being 310 by Bridgewater.

Individually, Wittenberg was paced by senior Macy Hubbard who turned in scores 74 and a one-under 71. Hubbard lost the one-hole playoff against Bridgewater's Christina Hebert after the two were tied for first after both rounds. Junior Jane Hopkinson-Wood turned in scorecards of 76 and 73, good enough for a third place individual finish for the Pottstown, Pennsylvania native.

Freshman Madi Wolters rounded out the top-five of the invitational, slating rounds of 78 and 74 in her first collegiate event.

The 2016-17 season rolls on for the Tigers with the Dan Quayle Collegiate Golf Classic, hosted by Deer Creek Golf Club in Clayton, Indiana on September 17 &18.
