SPRINGFIELD — The Wittenberg men's golf team was selected as the favorite to win the 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, while the Tiger women were picked third, based on balloting by the league's head coaches.

Wittenberg received six first-place votes and 61 points in the NCAC Men's Golf Pre-Championship Coaches' Poll. Kenyon was picked second, receiving the remaining two first-place votes and 57 points. Wabash was third with 46 points.

Wittenberg received 14 points in the NCAC Women's Golf Pre-Championship Coaches' Poll. Denison was selected as the favorite with all five first-place votes and 25 total points. DePauw was picked second with 19 points.

Under the direction of head coach David Wetterich, both Wittenberg squads are primed for success at this year's NCAC Championships, which are scheduled for Friday-Sunday, May 3-5, on the North Course at Westfield Country Club in Westfield, Ohio. Hosted by Hiram, the championship tournament consists of 54 holes over the three days with one round of 18 holes being played each day. Friday's action starts at 1:30 p.m. with the women teeing off on hole one and the men teeing off on hole 10. Tee times for Saturday begin at 12:10 p.m. with the men on the 10th hole and the women on the first hole, while tee times for Sunday are also slated for 12:10 p.m. with the men on one and the women on 10. Westfield Country Club's North Course is a par-70 layout.

Entering the week, the Tiger men are ranked No. 15 nationally in NCAA Division III in the Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll, which was released on April 12, and No. No. 14 in the D3 Scoreboard rankings, powered by Clippd, which were released on April 24. The Tigers head into the NCAC Championships with six tournament victories on the season, including the Ted Barclay Invitational (Sept. 2-3), the Wittenberg Classic (Oct. 15-16), the Hershey Cup (April 7-8), the Win Palmer Cup (April 15-16) the DePauw Spring Clash (April 21) and the Denison Spring Shootout (April 28). Seniors J.F. Aber (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) and Nicklaus Pidgeon (Homeworth, Ohio/West Branch) look to contend again after finishing in the top five of last year's conference championship event. Aber and Pidgeon earned All-NCAC First Team accolades after placing third and tying for fifth, respectively, last year.

The Tiger men are seeking a second straight conference title and 13th overall. They won 10 consecutive conference championships from 2010 to 2019.

The women are seeking their fourth all-time conference title and first since winning three straight from 2015 to 2017. Denison enters as the three-time reigning champion.

The Wittenberg women have won two tournaments this season, placing first at the Kuhn Invitational (Sept. 23-24) and the Eva Shorb Weiskopf Memorial Invitational (Oct. 1-2). They are coming off a third-place finish at the Franklin Lady Grizzly Spring Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. Sophomore Hillary Humbaugh (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) leads the Tigers this season with a 78.91 average followed by sophomore Izzy Selby (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) with a 80-97 average.
