Tigers Take Fifth Place At Butler Spring Invitational

AVON, Ind. - The Wittenberg Tigers stepped outside of NCAA Division III to participate in the Butler Spring Invitational, finishing fifth in a seven-team field.

Wittenberg carded scores of 308 and 311 in the two windswept rounds at Prestwick Country Club, which was playing as a par-71 at 6,085 yards. The Tigers, ranked second nationally in the latest NCAA Division III GolfStat scoring average statistics, wound up 31 strokes off the pace set by Indiana State with a two-round total of 616. IUPUI took second with 634, followed by Butler at 643, Loyola at 646, Wittenberg at 647, Cleveland State at 649 and IUPUI's second team at 699.

After a busy few weeks opening the second half of the 2015-16 schedule, Wittenberg now takes a break from competition before the stretch run. The season-closing stretch of five tournaments in seven weeks starts at the NCAA Preview at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas, the site of the 2016 NCAA Division III Tournament.

Individually, the Tigers' leader was sophomore Jane Hopkinson-Wood (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) with a two-round total of 159 to place 12th out of 43 golfers in the field. A pair of Tigers checked in at No. 15 in the standings as junior Macy Hubbard (Mason, Ohio/Mason) and senior Maggie Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) carded matching totals of 161.

Rounding things out for Wittenberg were freshman Chloe Bradburn (Gahanna, Ohio/Columbus Academy) in 23rd place with a 167 and senior Allie Lawwill (Springboro, Ohio/Middletown) in 29th with a 171.
