SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers welcomed a strong field of 15 teams to the 2013 Pat Clouse Invitational, and after the first round stood atop them all. The Tigers were unable to hang on, however, settling for third place in the final standings.

Ithaca, ranked 11th nationally, roared back from a two-shot deficit on Day 2 to capture the team title, carding consistent rounds of 316 and 311 to beat fourth-ranked DePauw by 12 strokes. Wittenberg, the No. 15 in the latest NCAA Division III poll, finished third with a two-day total of 655, seven strokes ahead of SUNY Cortland and 18 clear of Bellarmine.

The Tigers led the tourney after the first sun-soaked afternoon. Their round of 314 on the par-72, 5800-yard Springfield Country Club course ranks as fifth-best score in program history. The weather was similar on Sunday for round 2, but Wittenberg faltered with a team score of 341 to fall well behind Ithaca and DePauw.

While most of her teammates struggled in the second round, junior Nicole Waers (Canton, Ohio/Perry) actually improved on Day 2 to finish with a two-day total of 155. She tied for second place, seven strokes behind Ithaca's Sharon Li.

Sophomore Maggie Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) placed 17th with a score of 166, followed by freshman Macy Hubbard (Mason, Ohio/Mason) in 21st with a 167. Rounding things out were sophomore Allie Lawwill (Springboro, Ohio/Middletown) and junior Carolyn Wong (Naperville, Ill./Central) with matching 169s, good for a tie for 23rd place.

In addition, two Tigers competed as individuals in the 81-player field. Junior Savannah Fox (Massillon, Ohio/Perry) finished 33rd with a 176 and senior Deanna Mychalishyn (Mason, Ohio/Mason) carded a 183 to place 45th.
