Tigers Compete at Last Chance Meet

Naperville, IL- Wittenberg headed to North Central College for the Gregory Final Qualifier meet. This was the last opportunity for Wittenberg to solidify spots in the NCAA Championship meet, which will be held in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Alexis Gray was previously qualified in the 800-meter race but an eager Gray was able to break her school record of 2:11.61 with a first-place finish and new record of 2:11.19. Gray is currently ranked number seven heading into the national meet. Joining Gray in the trek to the podium is senior, Alexis Johnson. Johnson was able to punch her ticket with a second-place finish and leap of 5.81m in the long jump. Johnson is currently ranked number five in Division III.

Also competing at the Gregory Final Qualifier meet for the women was Lauren Welker. Welker ended with a second-place finish in the 5000-meter run and time of 19:32.21.

On the men's side were Ezekiel Bennett, Austyn Albanese, Ian McCandlish, and Deven Ramsey. Bennett grabbed a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.38, following in fourth-place was Albanese with a time of 50.21. The pair joined McCandlish and Ramsey in the 4x400-meter relay for a second-place finish and time of 3:17.73. Wittenberg had Sam Callinan competing in the decathlon, where he picked up a third-place finish in the 1500-meter run and time of 4:52.53 and third in the pole vault. Callinan had an overall finish of fourth in the decathlon with 4983 points.

The Tigers that will be competing at the National Meet will head down to Irwin Belk Track at North Carolina A&T State University for competition from May 27-29.
