Tigers Take On Quad Meet

Granville, OH- Wittenberg headed out to Denison University for their first quad meet of the season, going up against the Big Red of Denison, Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan, and the Fighting Scots of Wooster. Both the men's and women's teams picked up a combined 23 top finishes on the day.

The women were led by Alexis Gray, Lauren Welker, Alexis Johnson, and Hannah Schartz who all placed first in their respected events. Joining them on the podium were Sydney Khosla, Stevie Plikerd, and Tiffany Moss.

Alexis Gray claimed one of the women's top spots in the 800-meter race with a first-place finishing time of 2:19.78. Another first-place finish went to Lauren Welker in the 1500-meter race with a time of 5:06.93. Right behind Welker in second was Sydney Khosla with a time of 5:09.60. Tiffany Moss picked up points in the 100-meter hurdles with a third-place finish and time of 17.12.

For field events, the Tigers took home top finishes in the long jump, high jump, and javelin throw. Alexis Johnson and Stevie Plikerd placed back-to-back in the long jump with Johnson placing first with a distance of 5.37m and Plikerd in second at 4.91m. Plikerd also took home second in the javelin throw with a distance of 32.89m, beating out seven other competitors.

Also making an appearance at the top was sophomore, Hannah Schartz in the high jump with a first-place finish of 1.55m.

The women posted a first-place finish and time of 50.42 in the 4x100 meter race with a team made up of Seraye Bray, Stevie Plikerd, Tiffany Moss, and Alexis Johnson. The women's team finished the meet in fourth place with 114 points compared to Denison (175), Ohio Wesleyan (169), and Wooster (133).

The men were led by Ryan Zimmerman, Matthew Drovdlic, Zachary Guyer, Austyn Albanese, Matt Rogers, Ian McCandlish, Garrin Bachinski, and Chance Keller who all helped pick up first place finishes for the Tigers across three events.

Ryan Zimmerman took home first in the 5000-meter race with a time of 15:45.82 to give the Tigers their first top finish of the day. Adding points for Wittenberg was Matt Roger who landed a second-place finish in the 100-meter with a time of 11.36. Another second-place finish went to Austyn Albanese who finished the 400-meter race at 51.21. Following Albanese in the 400-meter was sophomore Ian McCandlish in a third-place finish and time of 52.03.

Deven Ramsey finished the 800-meter race at second place and time of 1:59.27, beating out eleven other competitors. Ramsey came back in the 1500-meter race with another second-place finish and time of 4:05.05. Following Ramsey in the 800-meter was Dak Smith in third with a time of 2:00.72. Right behind Ramsey in the 1500-meter race was Cullen Sainey in third with a time of 4:12.84.

Adding more second place finishes for the Tigers was Garrin Bachinski who picked up multiple top finishes, starting with a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles and time of 16.10. Bachinski grabbed another second-place finish later in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.80. Following right behind Bachinski in the 400-meter hurdles was freshman, Sam Callinan in third with a time of 1:00.28.

The men posted a first-place finish and time of 43.34 in the 4x100 meter race with a team made up of Matthew Drovdlic, Zachary Guyer, Austyn Albanese, and Matt Rogers. Albanese came back with Ian McCandlish, Garrin Bachinski, and Chance Keller in the 4x400 meter where the group finished in first with a time of 3:26.48.

The men collected 131 points to give them a third-place overall finish compared to Ohio Wesleyan (201), Denison (176), and Wooster (89).
