Women's Track and Field takes home 6th, Men take home 10th at Otterbein All-Ohio Championship

WESTERVILLE, Ohio—Both of Wittenberg's track and field programs were in action over the past weekend at Otterbein University, in Westerville, Ohio. Both Tiger teams showed strong out of the 17 schools that scored at the meet, as the women's team came in 6th place for back-to-back years, and the men's team took home 10th place. Wittenberg's men were highlighted by five total top-six finishes, while on the women's side, the Tigers produced multiple 1st place finishes on the day.

 

MEN'S TOP PERFORMERS

  • Laike Wallace (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington) kept his hot-start to 2016 going, taking home third-place honors in the 60 meter-hurdles with a finals time of 8.50 seconds, as well as a sixth place finish in the 400 meter-dash, running a time of 51.27 seconds.
  • Aaron Melsop (Westerville, Ohio/DeSales) recorded 12.98 meters in the triple-jump finals, good enough for third place on the day.
  • The men's 4X200 meter-relay team of Josh Graham (Beacon, New York/Poughkeepsie), Melsop, Matt Entsminger (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) , and Jalen Fultz (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield) finished sixth in the finals with a time 1:32.82.
  • Rounding out the day for the men, was the 4x400 meter-relay team of Ryan Hale (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) Cody Shutt (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) Entsminger and Wallace, who finished 6th in the finals with a time of 3:28.66

WOMEN'S TOP PERFORMERS

  • Brea Medlock (Galena, Ohio/Big Walnut) had her hand in on three first-place finishes on the day, including individual top-honors in the 60 meter-dash with a time of 7.84 seconds, and the 200 meter-dash finish at 25.97 seconds. Medlock's last first place finish on the day was in the 4x400 meter-relay along with her teammates, Alaina Longshore (Columbus, Ohio/Franklin Heights) Frankie Bowsher (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) and Samantha Mitchell (Solon, Ohio/Solon), finishing the finals at 4:04.44.
  • Medlock's marks on Saturday rank her in the Top 20 nationally in the 60 meter-dash and the 200-meter dash.
  • The 4x200 meter relay team of Sara Richards (Columbus, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln)  Tiarra Avant (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) Longshore and Medlock took home second-place honors with a finals time of 1:46.51
  • Individually for the Tigers, Jordan Crow (North Las Vegas, Nevada/Palo Verde) finished third in the 60 meter-hurdles at a time of 9.19.
  • Longshore also added to her impressive day with a sixth place finish in the 400 meter-dash after running a finals time of 59.87 seconds.

WOMEN'S PENTATHLON NOTES

  • Becah Delp (York, Pennsylvania/Eastern York) fourth overall in the pentathlon after finishing eighth in the 60 meter-hurdles, third in the high-jump, fourth in the shot-put, seventh in the long-jump, and ninth in the 800 meter-run.
  • Crow also added to her meet with a sixth place finish in the long-jump and an 11th place finish in the pentathlon.
