Tiger Track and Field Programs Finish Fourth at Denison Lid-Lifter

GRANVILLE, Ohio—Wittenberg Men's and Women's track got off to a shaky start Saturday morning. The team's travel was a bit out of the ordinary, as the team bus broke down in route to Denison University. Unfortunately not all members of the program were able to make it to the event to compete, but the Tigers miraculously kept their composure and made the most of the meet with limited numbers. Both the men's and women's team finished 4th overall, while individually, both teams found members take home first-place finishes.

MEN'S TOP 7's

  • Aaron Melsop (Westerville, Ohio/DeSalles) took home a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash, with a time of 7.27 seconds.
  • J'Quan Roberts (Dade City, Florida/Pasco) finished first in the 400 meter dash with a finals time of 54.16 seconds and sixth in the long jump with a distance of 6.24 meters.
  • Harrison Wood (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield Christian) followed up Roberts' top finish in the 400 meter dash finals with a fifth place finish of his own.
  • Freshman Daniel Wallace (Springfield, Ohio/Greenon) placed fifth in the shot put with a finals throw of 11.84 meters while fellow freshman Tiger D'Anthony Dorsey (Winter Haven, Florida/Lakeland) took home seventh with a throw of 11.38 meters.
  • Senior Daniel Mason's (Springfield, Ohio/Greenon) throw of 14.62 meters was good enough for a fourth place finish in the weight throw finals.
  • Tiger Eric Cospy's  (Trotwood, Ohio/Madison) throw of 13.66 meters found himself right behind Mason in fifth place in the weight throw finals.

WOMEN's TOP 7's

  • Jordan Crow (North Las Vegas, Nevada/Palo Verde) showed well Saturday, taking home a first-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.59 seconds, as well as fifth place finish in the 800 meter run after posting a finals time of 2:45.63.
  • Rebecah Delp (York, Pennsylvania/Eastern York)  finished two places behind Crow in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing third after posting a finals time of 9.99 seconds as well as a first place finish of her own in the high-jump, clearing 1.54 meters. Delp's impressive day continued into the long jump, where the senior finished second, jumping 5.21 meters.
  • Anissa Dan (Hiram, Maine/Sacopee Valley) threw 11.35 meters for Wittenberg, good enough for a fifth place finish in the weight throw.
  • Sydney Granito (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) also placed for the Tigers, coming in seventh place in the shot put with an 8.22 meters throw in the finals.
  • Rounding out the day for the Tigers was sophomore Kelsey Fobean (Munroe Falls, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) jumped 3.96 meters to finish in seventh place in the long jump for Wittenberg.

FROM THE SIDELINES

  • "It's unfortunate we had some unexpected bus issues and the majority of our team was unable to compete, however the group of athletes that did get to compete today did a great job. This group showed incredible resilience and most of the athletes in this group had season bests today… I am also very proud to hear that my athletes that did not get to make the trip took it into their own hands to get back to Wittenberg and get their work in," said Coach Hilliard.

UP NEXT

  • Both programs are back in action January 30, at the Fighting Scots Invitational at the College of Wooster.
