Wittenberg Kicks Off 2011 Indoor Season At Capital

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's and women's indoor track and field teams turned in a pair of solid finishes as they opened their 2011 season at the Rev. Mike Hout Invitational hosted by Capital University. The women finished 4th of eight, while the men finished sixth.

 

Competing against strong regional women's teams including meet champion Capital, Wilmington, Muskingum, Mount St. Joseph, Rio Grande, Central State and Denison, the women were paced by three first-place individual finishes, including two by freshman Alea Taylor (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield).

Taylor took home titles in the 60-meter dash, cutting .11 seconds off her preliminary time with an 8.15 final, and the long jump, with a final distance of 16 feet, 7.25 inches.

Junior Kari Domiano (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) added the other first-place finish, finishing with a time of 1:24.04 in the 500-meter run. She went on to add a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.49 seconds.

Finishing up the women's best finishes were freshmen Paige Lloyd (Medina, Ohio/Cloverleaf) and Angela Roll (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto). Lloyd turned in a third-place mark in the pole vault at nine feet, 6.25 inches, while Roll leapt four feet, nine inches to a third-place finish in the high jump.

On the men's side, sophomore Moses Mbeseha (State College, Pa./State College) paced the team with a second-place finish in the triple jump on a distance of 42 feet. He went on to add sixth place in the 60-meter dash in 7.45 seconds.

Freshman Chris Frierson (Cedar Hill, Texas/DeSoto) followed that with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash on a time of 53.24 seconds. Senior Jumar Guy (Fort Wayne, Ind./Southside) turned in a fourth-place finish in the 500-meter run at 1:11.82, and a fifth-place in the 200-meter dash at 24.02 seconds.

Rounding things out on the men's side was freshman Calvin "C.J." Minnifield (Dayton, Ohio/Ponitz), who turned in a finish of 7.43 seconds in the 60-meter dash, good for fifth place.

The teams both travel to Westerville, Ohio, for the Otterbein University Invitational next Saturday, Jan. 22.
